Mass-balance based soft sensor for monitoring ash content at two-ply paperboard manufacturing

Abstract Continuous and robust measurements are needed for the high end-product quality efficient eco-friendly process in paperboard manufacturing. As online enable optimization of manufacturing making it more cost effective environmentally friendly, these must be validated carefully continuously. This paper presents development a mass-balance based soft sensor estimation two-ply ash content. The developed considers basis weight, moisture fiber to derive content at reel. was success (Mean Absolute Percentage Error 11.80) during long-term simulation with measured data, this estimator showed level changes accurately, enabling also continuous validation hardware sensor.
